EWB Sheffield have taken the technology I worked on for my Master’s thesis with Maya Pedal in Guatemala over to Malawi this summer. They’ve continued the evolution of this open-source design, adapting it to a new local context and the tools, materials and skills available there. The machine pictured above was built to lift water out of Lake Malawi to irrigate fields close to its shore. Read more about the project in their latest blog post: Testing the new gear.
